Soul retrieval is a major shamanic healing.  As the name of this service suggests, soul retrieval is needed in the case of soul loss.  Most shamanic cultures around the world believe that illness is due to loss of the soul.  Everyone experiences soul loss in their lifetime, because human existence can be stressful and nobody escapes being hurt by people, circumstances, or other forces outside of their control.

Soul loss occurs when trauma (whether it be physical, emotional, or mental) causes the energy to fragment and a piece of our soul to flee the body in order to survive the experience.  The term trauma is to be interpreted somewhat loosely in this context; any single event or series of ongoing events that cause shock to the system can cause soul loss, and what causes soul loss in one person may not cause soul loss in another.  Potential causes include experiences that we may already think of as trauma: survival of any type of abuse, war, accident, natural disaster, or death of a loved one.  That said, any shock to our senses can jar soul parts to flee (many shamans believe that morning alarm clocks cause soul loss).  Although soul loss is a survival mechanism, the problem from a shamanic point of view is that the soul part that left usually does not come back on its own.

Soul loss was so well understood in shamanic cultures that people would be given a soul retrieval healing within three days after suffering any traumatic event.  Individuals also knew what was out of balance in their lives that might have caused an illness in the first place.  Today, shamanic healers are going back ten, twenty, thirty, or forty years or even more, looking for lost soul parts, and people are often unaware of what is out of spiritual harmony that is causing illness.  Soul loss often happened so young that individuals are unaware of the unconscious patterns they are living out due to their earliest soul loss.  It is apparent how much soul loss exists in today’s world, as so many people attempt to find happiness through money; it is a modern day pandemic if there ever was one!

There are many common symptoms of soul loss.  Perhaps most prevalent in today's world is the zombie-like experience of not feeling fully engaged in life, as if one is simply going through the motions on autopilot from day to day (referred to as dissociation within the context of psychology).  Individuals may also experience lower energy or vitality, or just feel stuck in life.  Other symptoms include chronic depression, chronic aching pain lodged in the body, suicidal tendencies, post traumatic stress syndrome, immune deficiency problems, grief that does not heal (anytime someone says, “I have never been the same since” an event, it is likely that soul loss occurred), and addiction of any sort.  Any attempt to fill up the empty spaces inside of oneself with external sources, whether it be with work, food, relationships, gambling, substances, or shopping, et cetera, indicate soul loss.

That said, chances are that if you have never had a soul retrieval, then you would benefit from one, regardless of what symptoms you may or may not be experiencing currently in your life.  It behooves all of us to have as much of our chi, or life force energy, with us as we can have!
